Electric cars are substituting British cabs. In London, there will be 150 of them by the end of 2018
From the beginning of 2018, electric cars will be gradually substituting conventional London cabs that serve as a taxi in the UK capital. By the end of the forthcoming year, 150 cars are planned to be replaced while by 2021 – up to 9 000 (a half of cabs available in the city).
Electric cars with generators on gasoline-engines are manufactured by London EV Company. It is due to the bill aimed at the elimination of emissions produced by commercial taxis. The London authorities adopted this regulation maintaining the policy towards environmental improvements in the capital.
Compared to the conventional cars, new cabs emit 90% less carbon dioxide. Moreover, they can be described as nitrogen oxide free. Drivers can save up to $130 per day on gasoline. Electric cars are charged for about 35 minutes at specially designed quick charge power stations. There are 57 of them, but this quantity is planned to be increased up to 150 all over the city by 2018.
The products of London EV were tested in July. Unlike conventional taxis, electric cabs have a panoramic roof and a lot more room (6 passengers can sit in it). The car has an in-build climate control system, sockets, a USB charging point as well as onboard Wi-Fi.
