On December 20-21, Sokolniki ECC hosted the third annual Connected Car Summit, organized by Smile-Expo. Event took place with the support of GLONASS Union and gathered the leading experts of Connected Car industry. Among the participants of the conference, there were government officials, foreign guests, famous Russian developers and manufacturers of hardware and software.
The first day: conference and exhibition
This year Connected Car Conference was divided into three thematic blocks:
- State and business: development trends of the latest technologies and solutions of the Russian business, world experience.
- Smart cars: technologies and services.
- Telematic solutions and services for the market: insurance.
Summit was opened by the President of GLONASS Union, Alexander Gurko. After his report ‘Development of the Russian consumer services market based on Connectivity’ he personally visited all exhibition booths in order to learn about the advanced developments and achievements in the industry.
Reports were also delivered by representatives of event sponsors. Rightech’s deputy director Ivan Zapolskiy and Delimobil’s expert Stanislav Groshov told about business automation technologies, big data processing and carsharing implementation. СЕО at T-Tronic, which created a car service platform, David Shostak shared secrets of developing viable products based on big data analytics.
Visitors were greatly interested by the report of the foreign guest – Vincent Bonne from OCTO Telematics S.p.A. Speaker touched the topic of transforming the insurance industry by implementing telematics. Lecture by Roman Fershter from Mobile-eye also attracted lots of attention, revealing how to move beyond the development of driver assistance systems to the creation of unmanned technologies.
Besides that, speakers of the first block included representatives of famous car manufacturers – Sollers, GAZ, AVTOVAZ. The subject of the second block was highlighted by experts from Bright Box, Yandex Automotive Lab, Cisco, Cognitive Technologies, Software Solutions, EuroMobile. In the third block, the representative of MTS spoke about the usage-based insurance, and lawyers from Baker&McKenzie’s Moscow office discussed the solution of key legal issues and industry regulation.
Exhibition zone featured innovative developments in the sphere of Connected Cars. In particular, Delimobil and Rightech presented the newest carsharing equipment. T-Tronic’s booth gathered many people who wanted to test the car services aggregator platform. Moreover, company representatives awarded smart devices to the winners of the social media contest.
The exhibition also featured:
- Remoto app from Bright box, that allows managing a car remotely;
- The latest automotive components from NPP “ITELMA”;
- Solution for forecasting dangerous road conditions from Foreca;
- Software for selfdriving cars from “KB Avrora” LLC;
- Microelectronics from JSC NIIMA PROGRESS;
- Innovative products from CARiOT, MonGeo Connected Technology Incarnet, “EnerZ” LLC, MotorData, Yandex, EuroMobile, and “Connectivity” LLC.
Visitors of the demo zone could also view smart cars, eco-friendly electric cars with high-performance engines, unmanned vehicles and many other things.
The second day: panel discussions and hackathon
The main focus during the second day was on panel discussions. In particular, there was a round table held with the support of Skolkovo Foundation, where participants talked about promising projects in the Connected Car industry, summarized results of the year and discussed the upcoming events.
Furthermore, a discussion panel “Projects in the sphere of Connected Car: investment prospects” was held. Specialists from T-Tronic, the demo zone sponsor, took an active part in the discussion.
Lectures for startups were given by the special guest from Belarus – Aleksey Shablovskiy (Startup Technologies). Speaker told how to present projects correctly and create a proper business model.
Hackathon became a separate point in the summit’s program. It was sponsored by Delimobil and Rightech, and moderated by Denis Kozminykh – founder of StartUP BAZAAR. Initially, 15 projects participated in this activity, but only six strongest teams entered the final competition.
Projects of hackathon participants were assessed by industry experts: Stanislav Groshov (Delimobil), Ivan Zapolskiy (Rightech), Daniil Kozlov (GVA), Vladislav Sudjin (STARTON), guest from Belarus Aleksey Shablovskiy (Startup Technologies), Aleksandr Korchevskiy (I2BF), Darya Voronova (VGTRK), and others.
Results of the hackathon at Connected Car 2016:
1st place – project by Dmitriy Sukhoruchkin “Driver’s telemetric data obtained using neurointerface, embedded in the headwear”.
Prize: winners cup, six months of a fully-fledged license for Rightech product, 200 minutes package and an article from Delimobil.
2nd place – carsharing team “Sharemobil”.
Prize: three months of a fully-fledged license for Rightech product, 160 minutes package from Delimobil.
3rd place – project for easy car fueling from WeTrack.Fuel.
Prize: a month of a fully-fledged license for Rightech product, 60 minutes package from Delimobil.
Besides that, representatives of T-Tronic presented the best projects with 10 devices featuring a diagnostic application that uses OBDII Dongle, business accelerator StartON provided three promising startups with certificates for expert support, and all hackathon participants received gift certificates for 8000 rubles to pay for Megaplan services.
Connected Car Summit 2016 was an exciting event of the departing year, and provided an opportunity to summarize results, discuss the achievements in the sphere of Connected Cars, and make up a development plan for the next year.
