Improvement of the safety system in cars can be made in various ways. Engineers from BeBop Sensors decided to add an element which usually drives less attention from others. Thus, we now have smart car seats which can define a passenger: adult, child or just a simple grocery bag.
Company developed the OCS - Occupant Classification System. Being just 1mm-wide, seat case contains hundreds of sensors that define the size and weight of a passenger, tracking movement – from crossing legs to leaning forward.
So how exactly is safety involved? The thing is, OCS can connect to car computer. In case of an accident, its data can be used for the most precise airbag positioning, thus saving driver’s and passengers’ lives. BeBop Sensors has already started negotiations with major car manufacturers about the application of this technology.
